Watching some of these quiz shows, and the young contestants state they are a teacher, but don't know or give a stupid answer to a basic general knowledge, history, maths question. What future is there for our children.

Like the guy on in it to win it last night - saud he had a history GCSE - but didnt know when the Battle of Britain was.
Teachers don't know everything, Bob. :-)
They don't know nothing , Bob.
I'm inclined to agree with you to some extent. But you have shot yourself in the foot somewhat with basic errors in punctuation and grammar.
People learn as they get older.
I love a good double negative when I read one.
Our children are doing just fine.

You cannot judge education and knowledge buy answers on quiz shows. There is so much added pressure when asked a question on a TV show. If everyone was given a minute to think they probably wouldn't come out with something daft. That's not the show though...
I worked with a teacher who was dyslexic, I know that's not his fault but difficult to teach young children to read and write when you have trouble yourself.
So this dyslexic teacher managed GCSEs, A levels and a Degree but has difficulty with reading?
20 years ago my nephews school sent a letter to my sister regarding his progress. My sister corrected the letter with red pen and sent it back :-)
roopower, a teacher who has a problem with reading is the very person to teach it. I have a friend, a retired headmistress, who from an early age had problems with maths. This gave her great empathy with the pupils who had similar difficulties and always ensured the children learnt the subject without stress or tension.
Ummmm, that letter must have come from the P.E. teacher ;-)
Tilly2 "Ummmm, that letter must have come from the P.E. teacher ;-)"
does that stand for privately educated? :o)
That as well, Vulcan. :-)
I was reading a certificate that my 7 year old granddaughter was presented with at school and "for reading allowed and always doing as she is asked at cleering up time"
///Like the guy on in it to win it last night///
bet he could spell 'SAID' though!
I don't measure the knowledge of my children/grandchildren on whether they know a particular fact or person from History.

I'd rather they could balance their housekeeping, order the right amount of food for a meal, measure up for home furnishings and calculate APR on a loan first.

If they can then recite a list of Monarchs and Battles all well and good.

By the way, five year old little un tells me it would take 3 billion ants in a row to fill the Euro Tunnel - I can't vouch for his accuracy.
Horselady, hold on to that certificate so when granddaughter excels in high school/college/uni she can take it back to primary school and tell them her achievements were nothing to do with them.

At this rate, there will be no more episodes of The Chase or Mastermind or University Challenge. I wonder huw many contestants 'freeze' though?
When I was teaching all letters from members of staff had to be vetted by the headmaster/mistress before being issued.
