Today would have been Carmen Miranda's 108th birthday, sadly she died from a heart attack at the young age of 46.

I always remember her song 'I Yi Yi Yi Yi' I like you very much'.

As a teenager in the 40s I saw all of her films that came my way. What a wonderful woman she was.

And yes those fantastic films back then, pure relaxed entertainment with no social messages to give out.

But those films did give out social messages AOG, they gave out messages about how it is expected women to behave, that if you behaved in a certain manner then you would get this this and this. Movies have and will always give out social messages. Perhaps you have just not been able to pick up on them!
