Just had a call from my bank- somehow my card details were used on Friday night online to spend £250 with PCWorld and £93.65 on a beauty website. I was at home watching tv and my card was in my purse. How has this happened?? I've never had this before. Soooo annoyed! They're calling me back in an hour as they want me to check if Mr Smows used my card for some reason- he hasn't , I've checked. The bank will give me the money back won't they??
happened to me also got the money back right away and they investigated and confirmed it had been internet fraud...sounds like you have been hacked at one of your shopping sites...change passwords immediately
do you have internet banking so you can check these facts..do NOT under any circs tell anyone who calls back your passwords if it is the bank they will not ask
Careful, are you sure it was the bank who called you?. Don't give your details to "them" when they ring back until you've definitely checked back with the bank on a legitimate number.
I would be concerned that the call itself is a scam. Before talking to anyone on the phone I would check your on-line statement, or go to your bank and get a mini statement.
What did your bank say when they called you up, Smowy?.....And what made them think it was not you that ordered the items online?
It could be that your card has been cloned...Might be from putting it in a ATM and having your details transferred on to a chip machine.....
Your bank should check this out thoroughly, and if it is showing that a fraud has been made in this case, they will almost certainly refund you the cost.
I've called them back - it's definitely my bank. And the card details are my card and not hubbys. Waiting for him to call me from work just incase he's for some reason used my card but he never has before
when they call say you will return the call but better if you call your bank now as there is a scam where they don't hang up and you are calling them back
When your bank calls you they will almost certainly ask you to provide some personal details to confirm they are talking to the right person; give them a wrong answer and see if they spot it.
No physical car was used, the details were (possibly) used for an on-line transaction.
If that were true, then the delivery address and the card address would be different, and I think that would usually flag up. Also, to collect the goods, the fraudsters would have to use a real address, or collection point which risks being caught.
Got number from my banks own website and my statements. Had to go thru all my usual checks. Put thru to relevant dept. Both transactions Fri eve bout 8pm online - no PIN was needed. Baffled!
