depends how you term wealthy.

someone on 50k might be deemed wealthy, but has a mortgage, several children and a partner who stays at home.

the free school meals have been a godsend for us - my daughter has them at the moment. As she is at school all day and cant come home for lunch because i am not there, it's very re-assuring to know that she's getting offered a hot meal. And of course, the peer pressure means that she at least tries new things. It also takes some pressure off me to provide a packed lunch. If school meals are to be withdrawn for infants it would be a shame from a personal POV. However, i expect i willjust pay for them as you suggested. i'm not sure how many parents would do the same though

kids should have to line up and present evidence of their parents' earnings before they get anything free.

The scheme as it stands has shown an improvement in performance in a lot of pupils, making it worthwhile in my opinion.

Maybe they could build in an 'opt out' scheme so those who wish to pay can do so.

from what i heard they will be offering all primary school children breakfasts instead, not sure that is such a good idea, that should be down to the parents to get them off to a good start to the day.

Surely you are not naive enough into believing that some would?

Many schools have breakfast clubs and they are a boon for parents who start work early, but on the whole I thin breakfast is better at home with parents and/or siblings.

I'm not naive, but I do know those who would happily pay.

I can't doubt the veracity of the wealthy, I only know a few.

It is also a parents responsibility to make sue that their children have a midday lunch.

What happens if the parent goes through a break up and finds it difficulty to get a job?
Such sweeping statements should be thought out loud before committing and writing down as it only looks bad for the author!!

I don't quite know why schools don't simply assume responsibility for their charges 24/7 and simply allow the parents to visit them from time to time.
