Psychological Projection
51 Answers
I think that most folk are aware of this nowadays, but here's a quick explanation...
//Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others// Wiki.
Is it a case that humans are predisposed to condemning in others, that which we cant face in ourselves?
A couple of examples...My ex father in law never liked me because I was an ex con with a few violent related offences against my name. It turned out that he beat his first wife up(my ex's mother). I was convicted of violent crimes , he wasn't, and he buried it in his memory.
Someone else I knew hated same sex relationships with a passion. (perverts, homos, queers etc) Yet had no problem with viewing lesbian porn.
This question has in part been inspired by Eccles post below re: attitudes towards overweight people. Islay pointed out that she'd love to see some of these 'bodies beautiful' that are making derogatory remarks about others. I agree with her.

This immediately negates the largest portion of their defence. It sounds pretty weak to say nooo that was you. It may certainly be attributed to Saul Alinsky more recently.
