As with much of these cases which involve the intelligence agencies. I imagine there is a significant amount of information about this story which we won't know about for a very long time. This looks overwhelmingly like some kind of "deal" has been struck - whether it be for information, for future passage back to the warzone, whatever.
If that's all there is to this story , then it's totally inacceptable .
