I am hoping there is a whizz out there that can help me, I am at the end of my tether, on my tosihiba TV (brand new) I can get the freeview channels on multiplex com6, but when I scan my Free view channels on my BT you view box they are missing, I desperately need channel 81. I phoned BT and said it was a problem with the box, received a brand new one yesterday , scanned the channels still missing all of com 6 ,I just don't know what else I can do , it all comes off the same aerial ,(again brand new) anybody got any idea or shall I just give up and move!!

It sounds like a classic problem with low signal strengths to me.

COM6 has probably moved to a different frequency in your area. (Provide the location of the relevant transmitter if you need that confirmed).

TV aerials should ideally have elements which are exactly the right length to 'resonate' with the frequency that they're designed to receive. So, in an ideal world, you should have a different aerial for each multiplex. That's clearly not possible, so we use aerials which are only a 'rough match' across a range of frequencies, meaning that they're better at 'pulling in' some multiplexes than others. Your aerial isn't well matched to the new COM6 frequency, so you only get a weak signal coming down the cable. Your TV set has got high 'sensitivity' though, enabling it to 'lock onto' those weak signals. However your YouView box has somewhat poorer sensitivity and can't cope.

One of these

together with one of these

will almost certainly provide a solution to your problem.
PS: Some multiplexes have not only changed frequencies recently but have switched to reduced power in order to avoid interference with neighbouring transmitters using the same frequency. So lots of people are now finding that they've got missing channels.

Thank you so much for your reply I will definitely look into your suggestions, thanks again for taking the time
^^^ The retune date, Tamborine, varies by transmitter. For most of the country the date has already passed:

My area is as qouted. Am limited to 231 BBC news but cant get other news channels.

Have I got a case to claim refund from BT ;)
