I’ve just read a post on our local towns FB page which identifies a hit and run drivers number plate. The victim is someone who lives in our village so I posted a link and someone knows who it is, so justice should be done.

I worry about things posted on Facebook. So many posts accusing people of being paedophiles, wife beaters etc and posting a picture of them. How do we know it's not just a disgruntled ex?

But....in your case it worked, so it served its purpose.

I'm a big fan of facebook.

fair enough as long as the identification is correct. Do you know it is?
The problem is that people believe everything they read. There was a photo being shared on Facebook claiming to be John Venebles. It wasn't him, it was an innocent man targeting and shared by thousands. How awful.

The local police, councillors and council post regularly on FaceBook which I find very helpful. Also traffic updates, local news and 'what's on' info.

A Scottish spoonerism. Cool.
I didn't mean the car, I meant the hit and run involvement. As ummmm says, misidentification can happen.
"...so justice should be done."

It probably will be. Expect a knock on your door and an interview, under caution, for either a public order offence or data/privacy offences.
i dont get how if the number plate was known the police can't get hold of the info of whose car it is?
