Watching the news this evening about the troubles in Venezuela, I was dismayed not only to hear the newsreader pronouncing 'Colombia' as 'Columbia' but even the map displaying the affected countries misspelled 'Colombia' as 'Columbia'. How would we feel if our country was written/described as Inglend?

We call Deutschland Germany, Italia Italy, Россия Russia, इंडिया India,Ελλάδα Greece, etc etc - so why not Colombia Columbia ?

And incidentally they call us Inglaterra.

Lightening Ridge isn't far from my neck of the woods Sanmac. I've been "poodling" a few times, never found much of value although others have.

Coober Pedy in SA produces some beautiful gems as does Lightening Ridge.
