Our TV failed after 24 years, so we've coupled the Freeview box to a monitor. The box has five formats, from cinema to square-ish, and the monitor has three formats. Some combinations give tall thin people, some short fat ones, and some look roughly human. Is there a broadcast test card like the old test card F, which shows a square or circle so that we can pick the ideal setting?

Select BBC Red Button Ch 250 (or maybe 200 if you haven't retuned recently). When it loads, press yellow, then tune away to any other channel, and then tune back to 250. Now press green, and you'll see a technical info screen. Press green again and voila - a test card! Press 'Text' to exit.

Basic Tvs are reasonably priced and very much better picture quality than a monitor. You certainly had your moneys worth from your old TV so why not give a new one a good home.
