Why Is Itv Good Morning Britain So Obsessed With Transgender Issues?
13 Answers
Several times every week GMB have transgender discussions. Why? Transgender always used to be an extremely rare issue until recently, and now programmes like this are making it commonplace. I think it's extremely dangerous to today's youngsters to do that. If it's not in their awareness they're unlikely to be troubled by it, and very troubling it must be for any person

I agree with OG. Persistent blanket reference makes it seem "cool" and youngsters who are not mature or experienced enough to do otherwise lap it up.

Not if it encourages impressionable youngsters to think they can change gender and badger to do so. Plenty of newspaper and magazine articles regarding both the dramatic rise in requests and those who went through it and realised it was an error. It needs to be clear that this mental mismatch of how one feels and how one really is, is an exceptional circumstance, not the norm available on a child's confused feeling of wanting to be the other sex.
OG I think that a part of the problem is that we don't know how rare this is, or what is best to do about it. I think it may be one of those things that is very hard to understand from the outside. Speaking personally, as hetero cis female, I have no idea what it is like to feel female because I have always just felt like me. I have never enjoyed or wanted the "usual" external signs of being female in terms of dress, makeup, hairstyles and so on, never had children and not bothered. If I have no idea what makes me declare as female, how can I understand what makes someone else "feel" female or male and I suspect that this is true for most if not all cis men and women. There was a very intersting program on TV recently...It might have been a Panorama...on gender identity....consensus seems to be that currently its not clear what to do for the best but that's not an argument for doing nothing.
