Endeavour/Morse - Was Is Just Me That Missed It??

Watching bit of an old episode of Morse this morning, which was set after the age he was in Endeavour, but filmed first, if you get my drift lol. Mr Smow suddenly rewound a bit and said “did you notice that?”. What?? “Look on the name on the door that Morse knocked on and entered.” Ok….. it says Chief Inspector Strange. And??
That’s Morse’s fellow colleague in ENDEAVOUR. Is it??
So apparently his colleague and equal in ENDEAVOUR is the character in the storyline who has clearly been promoted up the ranks and so in Morse he is the Chief Inspector. But as ENDEAVOUR was filmed second they cast him then as a young officer pre promotion.
Was it just me??

They point out there that the Morse episodes with Strange show him with naval memorabilia in his office, which imply a naval background rather than coming up through the ranks.

I seem to have missed much of the undertone in the programme. Danny, I’m not sure but Mr Smow insists he had a colleague called Strange.

The pathologist in Endeavour feels to be the one in the early Morse episodes in that his mannerisms are the same and they are both called Max but no surname is given for the Morse version of the character.

In Morse Jim Strange was Morse's Chief Superintendent (not Chief Inspector, Morse was a Chief Inspector). Endeavour was a very good prequel in that included Strange as a contemporary of Morse, but he clearly was promoted more quickly. Also in Endeavour you may have noticed pathologist Dr Max DeBryn (catchphrase: "Gentlemen, shall we say 2 o'clock?"). He was the original pathologist in Morse. There was also a storyline in Endeavour which showed Morse suffering an ankle injury. Morse (John Thaw) walked with a peculiar limp which was a result of him breaking his ankle as a teenager.

One other thing (across "Endeavour", "Morse" and "Lewis"). Have you ever noticed how his bosses have always had "adjectives" for a surname? There was DCS Crisp (played by Trevor Harvey) in the pilot episode of Endeavour. CS Reginald Bright was in the remaining Episodes. CS Strange (James Grout) was in most episodes of Morse. CD Jean Innocent (Rebecca Front) was Lewis's original boss and she was replaced by CS Moody (Steve Toussant) in later episodes. So, Crisp, Bright, Strange, Innocent and Moody.

There were 33 episodes of Morse and 33 of Lewis. The cast of Lewis wanted to make no more than had been made of Morse.

Dorothea Frazil, the reporter, is played by John Thaw's daughter, Abigail Thaw. A clever twist is her name - frazil is ice crystals formed on rushing water so it can't freeze solid, a sort of constant state of thaw :)
The grotty house Endeavour lives in is the same house that Morse lived in - he must have spent a lot of time doing it up over the years.
