I have seen these auctions on TV. People blindly buy goods hoping they have a higher value than what they paid for them. I find that a strange thing to gamble on.
The NZ story reminds me of the recent shocking documentary film, ‘The girl in the picture’ based on a true story.

The monster who eventually killed the girl in the picture, actually adopted 3 small children from a US orphanage. He killed two of them, saving the pretty little girl because she could earn money in strip clubs and brothels.
