Travelling to London for a few days next week. Does anyone know if Grace Brothers department store is still open? I know it featured in a tv documentary a while back. The staff were very friendly and always had a kind word for their customers. Some of them have probably retired now but it would be nice to visit just to find out. I believe one of the young shopgirls went on to become a famous actress. Was it Glenda Jackson? She then became an MP by marrying another politician I think he was called Ted Major but not sure. She certainly did well for herself. I'm sure fellow Abers will come up with the answers.

Yes - You get a tube to Walford or ask Blakely the way on a bus, then you go past Steptoe and Son's on Gas Works Road, take a left past Mr Benn's fancy dress hire, past Reggie Perrin's house and its second left after the Double Decker's yard.
(Mews Cottage, Oil Drum Lane, Shepherd's Bush)

Please note my Uncle Steptoes real address.
Sorry - isnt it Mr T Hancock who lives on Gas Work Lane?
Oh well - just a bit of nonsense eh?
yes it is, if you need someone to come with you to show you around, i'm freeeee.
Wasn't Railway Cuttings where Tony Hancock lived?
I do know that Mollie Sugden's bridesmaid ended up in a TV comedy programme.

Don't really need directions. I know its on Baker Street somewhere. Just wondering if its still open in order to avoid disappointment.

lankeela - of course you are right! Who lived on gas works lane then! Wasnt The Ladykillers was it?
All the staff are on Holiday in the Costa Plonka at the moment. There was a "documentary" about it this afternoon on ITV1.
