No best answer has yet been selected by Corkem. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.If it was written with numbers and symbols, following the pattern of your question (and without any brackets), then the answer is STILL 168.
If the question was given verbally and without any 'verbal puntuation', then once again the answer IS 168.
If, however, the question was given verbally with 'punctuation' (indicated by slight pauses, inflexions and/or running words together) the answer could be different:
"What is ninety divided by five" - pause -"multiplied by ten-minus-twelve" can be construed as the verbal equivalent of (90 / 5) x (10 - 12). This gives 18 x -2 = -36
Or, as RosyRussell has suggested, putting a pause after 'ninety' and running the end of the question together gives this:
"What is ninety" - pause - "divided by five -multiplied -by-ten-minus-twelve".
This is the verbal equivalent of 90 / (5x(10 -12)) = 90 / -10 = -9.
Lastly, another slight verbal tweak gives this:
"What is ninety" - pause- "divided by five-multiplied-by-ten" - pause "minus twelve".
This is the verbal equivalent of (90 / (5 x 10)) -12 = (90 / 50) -12 = 1.8 - 12 = -10.2

The `correct` answer is of course - anything that the promoters wish. If it was the usual con that has been written about numerous times on here, then the question would have been written in a simple formula to give viewers the idea of simplicity. No-one on AB has so far been able to explain an answer even on the rare occasion that an answer has been given, so do not be tempted to waste your money on the expensive telephone call.

The first assumption you make is that anyone actually watching and playing this game is completely thick and so you go for 168 - but that's not right. So then you ignore the equation and simply add up all the numbers, which is what it says to do, and you get 117 - no luck there either. Then i hit upon the sneaky "NINE" contained within the "NINETY" so giving 126. After half a dosen calls i got through but it was wrong! So now it just drives me crazy. I do have one more answer to try that i havent heard yet but i havent watched it every night for very long. They have already stated that it's not zero, or a minus or with a decimal point, so it must simply be a very annoying puzzle. Maybe you add up all the "i's" as ones or perhaps it's roman numerals.
Whatever it is it is certainly very frustrating and it does steal your money. It's also very clever in that it gives the impression that no one is calling so you think you'll get straight through on your first attempt, when in reality they are raking it in. The most annoying thing is that i might miss the answer - i just want to know - i hates it i do.
you need to add the roman numerals in the words as well. ie IV,VI,DIV in the word divided.
add all combinations of roman numerals to 117 (addition of all word numbers)
the answer i get is 6909. maybe someone could give me a cut of the money if they get thru? :)
i was trying all night to get thru via the website: http://www.quiznightlive.com/Q_on_hold/index.cfm
of course it could be anything the producers decide. maybe someone could post the answer when someone finally wins it, would be good to know if im right which i think i am.
If you want some amusement go to the website and read the terms and conditions. For 75p you MAY get the chance on being on hold. You will then be only be allowed to stay on hold for 59 seconds. If your lucky enough for the presenters to stop their inane rantings (in try to con your into thinking you have a chance) and for the coin to stop spinning you MAY then get the chance of getting on-air.
What they dont state is the probabilities. But you can probably work it out everybodys 75p is paying for the prize, paying the presenters, paying the production crew, paying for the facilities, paying for the airtime, and fattening the wallets of the company directors. They dont get money from advertising and Im not inclined to think that theyre a charity and giving the money away!.
It's not zero!!! They've had zero already. Please dont waste any more money - this question has been running for approx 10 days (nearly 30hrs!). All the obvious answers would already have been given. And they bank on new viewers coming in and repeating the answers that have already been given.
I repeat it's a scam theyre taking everybody for a ride and raking the money in (why do you think the prize is so high theyve already made the prize money many times over and theyre rubbing their hands with glee). The answer will be based on very dodgy logic* and you're effectively entering a very costly lottery that is biasing you to give the wrong answer. Save you're 75p's please youll be better off buying National Lottery tickets - I believe the odds of winning something are far greater.
*For example just say theyre basing it on Roman numerals. DIVIDED could therefore be D (500) plus I (one) etc. Or perhaps they could also assume that the IVI element gives I (one) plus IV (four) plus V (five) plus VI (six) plus I (one). Get the message? The puzzle has not baoundaries set so they can therefore make up almost any answer
