'The Green Glasses' - need help finding

When I was about nine or ten, I watched something very disturbing on telly - I don't know if it was a film or TV programme. It was a black and white programme, and the story was about a man who found a pair of green glasses that showed anyone's inner personality to him when he wore them. He looked at his best friend showing him a bottle of wine, and the wine was really poison, and when he looked at his wife he saw that she was having an affair...and when he put the glasses on at the end and looked in the mirror, he was hideously ugly. I seem to recall Roy Scheider playing the lead role, but if so, it's not listed in his filmography anywhere online. NO search so far has given me any clues at all, and I've now spent almost ten years chasing this down. Hellllllp!!
