As you will know, I missed the first episode of Series 12 (pause for rant at Chanel 4!) and I am more or less up to speed after Episode Two tonight - have I missed anything significant in the first Episode?

I'm unsure who Ortiz's new partner is - there seems to be tension there, and the new Lietenant - from the 'Rat Squad' it seems...

Anything else I need to know - most grateful for advice from fellow addicts.

Yes the new captain is from the rat squad previously and has been called in purposely because our heroes are seen as a 'rogue squad'. It took him about 3 and half nanoseconds to start breaking balls and started to freak Greg out by asking his age/time on the job etc. the implication that he has been sent in to get rid of some 'deadwood' (pun intended - if you didnt watch it andy you should catch up with Deadwood - its like NYPD in cowboy times).
John was an acting like an idiot from get go, getting Andy's back up (not hard).
The new partner has transfered in from narcotics i think but was originally a street cop. A street cop came in to help on a case and she knew him from back in the day and she was a bit flirty with him which got Ortiz's back up and then she sort of flirted a bit with John so Rita felt she had to say something.
Along with all this it seems Andy has become a victim to a campaign of revenge.
Baldwin didnt really figure too much apart from walking around looking brooding.
No sign of Connie or Theo.
Will that do?

Thanks very much GB - that fills in the blanks nicely.

It looks like Junior is not taking any advice, and from past form, sleeping with a potential witness is not a good idea, and repercussions can be heard rumbling by us seasoned fans.

Enjoy the rest of Series 12 - maybe they'll start again from Day One? That's me off to buy a box of blank ciscs!

Or even discs - I'm just too excited at the thought!!!!
What i dont understand is that channel4 now have 3 channels with loads of airtime to fill and they show loads of bobbins like You Are What You Eat and Beauty and the Geek, when they have old episodes of a high quality drama just sitting around. Even if they stuck it on a 1 in the morning we could video it and wallow in Diane and Bobby et al.

Aaah, Dianne, that fair skin, those lovely long hands .... (shut the door quietly on your way out please ..... thanks.)
And John did ask the new girl out for first day drinks and she very sensibly said thanks but no thanks. Any ideas as to who might be doing the payback? They must know him quite well to target the fish! I don't think it's the cop from the last series -too obvious.
Andy if you are going down that road I'll have Bobby.Heard a rumour he makes an appearance this series!
He would have a job. He is dead!
Contrary to popular belief he is not the future president of the United States but died of a brain disorder.
Do you perhaps mean John Kelly who is busy CSI-ing - he did leave under a cloud though and i believe Dennis Franz didnt get on at all?
Diane made an appearance last season though didnt she?
I know he is dead but honestly I've seen something that suggests he will make an appearance....somehow...
You heard it first...
Perhaps we'll have a Bobby Ewing/ Dallas "It was all a terrible dream' type episode and Bobby, Sylvia, Andy Jnr and Danny will all turn up for work as normal one day.
