Is it a c**k up?. Steve was busy replacing the licensee notice above the Rovers, but I thought pubs didn't have a licensee nowadays and that it was the premises which were licenced. Or am I wrong - I know my local just has permit from the local council.
Yes it is a c**k up. The premises needs to be licensed by way of a Premises Licence issued by the local council and a Desginated Premises Supervisor should be named on that licence. The DPS must hold a Personal Licence and to be able to apply for one they need to go on a qualification course. The premises licence should be displayed on the premises but there is no requirement for a licencees name to be above the door anymore.
yes i have just received my 'Personal Licence' which you have to go on a course (and pass) and then its like a driving licence, you can be the licencee of any pub anywhere, and it lasts for 10 years.
And - No you dont have your name above the door either.
Saying all that, whoever 'applies' for the Rovers never goes on any kind of course or training or interview, nor does anyone ever get turned down! Oh to live in Soapland
