Furious.

Within fourty seconds of seeing Pomp and Circumstance and Land of Hope and Glory on the Proms I furiously have complained to the BBC.
As a British person I am extra proud to be English. This evening is one of the last remaining bastions of Britishness left in our culture, and I, for one, adore the regality of the whole show. I therefore embrace the nations flags of Northern Ireland, Scotland and even the Welsh Dragon. I also just about accept the Republic flag of Ireland, to a small degree.
During Land of Hope and Glory I further embraced the tricolor of France. Yes, they were capitualting cowards with little more than garlic for arms, but Jerry did harm them, so hats off. What I can not except, and refuse to embrace is the bloody German flag waving at OUR proms!!!!!!!!
Land of Hope and Glory was made especially famous in both WW1 and WW2 as a statement against Jerry and their facist regime. How dare they!!! and how dare the bloody politically correct BBC allow the German flag to be waved!!!
My Great-Grandfather died at the Somme along with 20 odd thousand other Brits. Probably a lot of AB family members. His son, my Grandfather fought in Africa during WW2 against great odds to defeat Hitler!!!!!
I am furious, and this has ruined a rather nice evening and poor old Elgar must be stirring in his grave!!
Please air your complaints to the BBC if you feel the same.
Spitfires to the lot of them. Bloody krauts.

But a German flag isn't a Nazi flag. To me the two are almost as unrelated as Christianity and the KKK.
I'm sorry it ruined your evening, and good for you for complaining about something that you feel so strongly about. But it was 60 years ago. We often say that 'we can forgive, but we cannot forget'
I wonder how many people truly have forgiven?
