Members of the panel were not asked to award marks in Juke Box Jury. They were simply asked to forecast whether the record played would be a hit or a miss.

The chairman (David Jacobs) would ring a bell (rather like the one on the desk in Fawlty Towers) if they forecast a hit, or sound a bulb-type car horn if a miss.

The panel always had four members, so in the event of a tie, David Jacobs would use his casting vote to determine the decision.
