BBC4 Top of the Pops 1978 last night

For me practically the whole of the 70's was a write-off but watching this last night 1978 musically speaking certainly was! What were we thinking?? Dross after dross-Rasputin by Boney M, Matchstalk men and matchstalk cats and dogs, Father Abraham and the Smurfs,Brotherhood of Man with Figaro...did we actually buy this stuff?? What do you think?

Remember this simple fact - there are 60 million people in this country. 59.99 million of them think Westlife should be burnt at the stakem but the rest buy their records - hence, they hit Number One with every piece of dross they turn out!
Pop means just that - popular - and mass public taste is renowned for being dreadful in all forms of culture.
So, for every Boney M in the 70's, there was a Zep or a Floyd, and so on.
Music is a treasure hunt, you have to dig for the diamonds, the dross is always on the surface.
