Remakes.

Are remakes ever better.
What springs to mind:
1) Charlies Angels
2) Dukes of Hazzard
3) Starskey and Hutch
4) Superman
5) Incredible Hulk
6) Ladykillers
7) Oceans 11-200098.
8) Texas Chainsaw Massacre
All pretty bad.
However
1) Batman
2) Spiderman
3) All the Japanese horrors like The Grudge, The Ring etc are good remakes. Not that I am adverse to Jap flicks, but I prefer my movies in English.
Any other examples of GOOD or BAD remakes?

I'm going to be a little controversial and suggest that Magnificent Seven is better than the original. Don't get me wrong, I like Seven Samurai, I just like the remake better. But that's probably because I have a Western fetish.
The trouble with remakes is that nearly all of them are essentially pointless cash-ins. The remake of Psycho is a good example. As is the recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Wardy, I'd personally disagree very strongly on the Japanese Ring. I'd say the remake verged on ripoff and had none of the suspense or atmosphere Ringu had. There again I watched the Japanese one first.
