i'm sure they said w@nkers on simpsons tonight. I thought I was mistaken, then they said it again! How have they got away with that then? I'm just glad my seven year old wasn't in and my four year old didn't hear! (I think my 14 year old has heard the expression before!)
It's used quite a bit in ER when the Indian doctor gets mad at someone.
However, nothing new in an offensive word in a cartoon. Cop this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuCbrPzPLAc and yes, it IS genuine. Apparently, in that context it means the same thing as over here - they just don't have the other definitions.
I think you will also find that most Simpsons episodes are rated '12' so there will be references to stuff in there that a lot of people aren't comfortable with - you can find this out on the bbfc web site or even play.com. To be honest I never let my kids watch it when they were seven, my youngest is 9 now and he has just started watching the tv show, although he is a big fan of the movie (pg).
****** is an extremely mild word in USA, similar to fool or clot. They also use "fanny" to mean bum rather than the meaning it has over here and so "He hit me on the fanny" wouldn't mean the same to us as it would to them.
Oh you had to remind me didn't you! Many years ago, back in the seventies, I'm at home, eating my tea while watching McMillan and wife, and Mac says something to Sally about patting her fanny. End result, nearly choke on a mouthful of food and end up spraying it all over the living room.
Wasn't it Phil Collins who blazed the trail for usage of the W-word on US TV as an epithet rather than someone's surname during his appearance on Miami Vice in 1984?
BTW it is not unusual for the name to appear on TV in the credits for Buffy...
Yes, I am sure that they used the big W-word on the Simpsons as well. I know that is is not meant for children specifically, but it is on before the 9pm watershed. Children will learn all these words soon enough (unoffially)at school, without them being put on cartoons, so I don't think there is any need for this, and other ABers will testify I am certainly no prude!
i didn't realise it was rated a 12.
It's just one of those rare programmes that the whole family can sit down and enjoy together.
Yes, most of the jokes go over the little ones' heads but it's 25 minutes peace!
the one u2 there in they all called each other w@nkers ,and in another one the news reader said they were all having ''golden showers''. Sky cut the golden showers out the last day . saw the same one RTE but they did not cut it out . What TV station were you watching it on ?
