why not the same channels on freesat as freeview?

I get freesat on a sky system but cannot understand why there are listed channels that are free to view on freeview but not on satelite where a subscription would have to be paid! I have asked Sky but just get a load of rubbish...

Some more here on freesat. Reading quickly it looks like subscribtion may be due to having to encrypt the signal for legal reasons - obviously with freeview, no-one unauthorised (or very few) can watch it, so this isn't needed, but with satellite footprint covering europe, a different story.
