Donna's father, Geoff Noble was played by Howard Attfield in the Christmas Special "The Runaway Bride". He recorded scenes for Donna's return in "Partners in Crime", this most recent series first episode, but died soon after recording finished. His part was then re-written and re-recorded with Bernard Cribbins as Donna's Grandfather.
Bernard had played a newspaper seller in the last Christmas Special, but his character was never named on screen, so it was easy to write him in as a relative of Donna's.
