... on becoming Sports Personality of the Year 2008. A thoroughly well-deserved award for a man who created history in British sport in Beijing when he won 3 Gold medals making it four overall. Lewis Hamilton and Rebecca Adlington (and all the others in the top 10) both had splendid years as well but they have many more years of competition ahead of them and will have other oppurtunitites to win the award - this was Chris Hoy's year and the British public voted correctly.

I wanted Rebecca Adlington to win. The other two have to rely on their machines and skilled engineers, she is totally on her own !!

With no disrespect intended to anyone, Chris Hoy deserved to win this year more than anyone as he became the first Briton to win 3 gold medals at the Summer Olympics in the modern era - winning 4 in his Olympic career - and is (i believe) in his final year of competitive cycling. Both Lewis Hamilton and Rebecca Adlington have many years ahead of them in their sporting careers and will undoubtedly have further chances of winning SPOTY.
