DVD writing problems

Hi. If im burning a DVD, my computer slows down so much even the mouse pointer cant keep up. Outlook express took over 1min to open! Iv got 2.8Ghz P4, 1Gb ram and cant work it out. There is a 120Gb C drive, 40 Gb D drive with the burner (E) on the same IDE as D (master and slave setup fine). Any ideas?

Make sure all other programmes are closed as this will slow things down because your computer will be multi tasking,although your computer spec seems ok.If it's a film your burning ensure your DVD software hasn't opened it up automatically and playing it in the background. Use Nero 6 i never have problems with burning.
