baby milk
hello i have a dillema, i had my daugter 4 weeks ago, i was trying to breast feed for the first few days but unfortunatley it didnt work out for me or baby, so i had to formula feed, anyway i started on the cow and gate but she is constantly consipated and seems to get terrible wind, i have discussed this on many occasions with the health visitior and she says to change the brand of milk, obviously i had already thought of this but which one to choose is a puzzle,
she tends to poo every 3+ days and i think she is in oain with is sometimes, i had to give her a teaspoon of apple juice in her water the other day and she went not long after which was great! she had cooled boiled water every day now but i thin she is getting a bad tummy, i can tel because of the amount of wind that is coming out at the bottom end!!
there is a cow and gate milk for new borns for sensitive tummies, is says it is a thicker mix so less wind gets trapped etc etc but if its thinker i cant see that doing the consipation problem much good??? anyone got any ideas? i know constapation is common is bottle fed babies,
my health vistior was here this morning and sugested aptimil, i havent heard of this brand but ill gove anything a shot, just wondered if anyone had an advice before i go to the shops
thanks guys

Anyway he got on quite well with it, to begin with he did become constipated for a few days, but after the initial adjustment from breast milk onto formula he was fine!
We used it all through his formula stages, and even switched him onto the one for hungrier babes when he was around 6 months old, as he was growing at such a rate and demanding feeds every two to three hours!
I did make the mistake of switching him to aptamil for babies with sensitive stomachs when he became constipated again, but this didnt agree with him at all, as it caused him to have terrible loose nappies, and he seemed hngry very often too, like it didnt have enough substance for him.
What i also did when my lad was blocked up was give him a tiny tiny amount of fresh orange juice mixed with cooled boiled water, this seemed to help, also warm baths and massaging his stomach. When all else failed we gave him gripe water, which i found worked for many problems, not just colic.
It is very much trial and error, and sometimes it feels like you are never going to get it right, but baby will let you know when she is happy and contented, you just need to keep trying, and stay patient. It will work out! My boy is nearly 18 months now, and loving his full fat cows milk!!

Hi.
We have Aptamil for our baby after I finished breastfeeding at 3 months. There is a normal blue, from birth kind and also an easy digest which is a thicker consistancy.
I found that my baby was also constipated and windy (didn't think such noises could come from something so tiny!!) when I went from breastfeeding to bottle feeding. There is a natural laxative in breastmilk that they seem to take time getting used to going without. She stopped being constipated but it took a few weeks.
She can still trump for England though!! Lol!
