kids Tv show, mid-late 80's

Hi im just wondering if anyone can tell me the name of a show, it wasnt a cartoon and had a boy possibly called jonny, and i think was always filmed in his house, and in the sitting room, behind the sofa was a door, not sure where it went, but im pretty sure he wasnt allowed in it. Sorry this is very vague.

where did the door lead to?

I think the door led to the basement. There was an episode in which he was growing mushrooms and I'm sure that was the door he used.
