Can I record to DVD from TV?

I am on Sky TV, is it possible to record a programme from BBC, ITV etc to?
a DVD as my daughter lives in Hong Kong and cant get BBC I player etc and misses her documentary's and soaps?

Zoning issues won't come in to it at all. A copied dvd is region free.
