1970's TV Drama, what is it?

Hi,

Please can someone help. For ages I've been trying to locate the name of a late 1970's one off TV Drama and as I can't remember the name it's proving impossible. I can't find anything on IMDB, even with keywords in the search facility.

The programme was run over 2 or 3 nights and was about a Profoundly deaf young woman who runs away from home and ends up in London. Various people take advantage of her and she ends up getting into prostitution, in one scene, I recall she accidentally gets slashed across the cheek with a knife.

It was quite violent and at the time had alot of press coverage because of this. To be honest, I shouldn't have been watching it as I was only about 9 or 10 at the time. I think the title may have been the deaf woman's name. I thought it may have been called "Sandra", but can't find anything under that name. Any ideas?

I remember it too, doesn't she end up getting pregnant and some weird Arabic/Asian bloke gets off with her? - he writes her this really cringy over the top poem, she tries to get away from him but he turns out to be a bit obsessed and makes a nuisance of himself. I seem to remember a scene where she is running away from him pushing a pram.

Ok. Found it. The drama was called "Dummy" it was directed in 1977 by Franc Roddam.
The actress who played "Sandra" was Geraldine James.

Hmm Answerprancer well done and thanks, you could well be right. Obviously I was quite young so wouldn't remember the actors. I remember the character Sandra had lots of bushy hair, as does Geraldine James.
