many thanks for this, what I'm really stumped on is the burning pants, one suggestion is Liar Liar pants on Fire, but I can't find this as a film or tv show, is it a catch phrase in a particular show?

Liar Liar. It's a Jim Carrey film. I've also seen Lie To Me suggested for that clue.
