I call it Third Series Syndrome. The same thing happened to Little Britain. A new series comes out. It`s popular so they do more of the same and it`s so popular that they bring out a third one. The trouble is by the third series they feel they have to go one step further and it goes over the top. The characters and storylines that everyone liked because they were "real" become exaggerated and parodies of themselves. I hope it doesn`t happen to Come fly with Me but I suspect it will.
There was an episode of Happy Days where The Fonz water skied over a shark in full "Fonz" oufit inc leather jacket. Some people say that's the point Happy Days should have been axed. Hence the expression in TV land of "Jump the shark" meaning its had its day.
The sharpness of the dialogue is not there, and the situations are bordering on surreal - never a good place for such a 'realistic' group of characters.
New replacements not as good as old characters - time to let it go.
