Bolt is a superhero dog movie. The look of this Disney film was inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper and the cinematography of Vilmos Zsigmond. The film stars the voices of John Travolta, Miley Cyrus and Malcolm McDowell. The Bolt character is based on the American White Shepherd dog and has traits of other breeds as well.
Bolt was extremely well received at the box office, in no small part due to the 3D release; however, the film works just as well in the normal format. Some viewers found the plot a little lacking; the protagonist has to overcome a seemingly huge obstacle to achieve his happy ending and learn some lessons along the way, and this may be true but the characters really save it. The visual effects of the film were striking and gave the film that close to reality look that animators are going for nowadays.
Bolt is a superhero dog who is completely devoted to his owner Penny; unfortunately he is just an actor on a carefully prepared TV show set. However, when he is accidentally let out into the real world he has a serious reality check. Bolt’s experience is reminiscent of the confusion Buzz Lightyear felt (in Toy Story) when he discovered he wasn’t a superhero spaceman. Bolt goes on a life changing journey with two companions with their own personal problems.
