Films For Girls Under Five

10:25 Fri 09th Jul 2010 |

If your little girl is typical she will be madly into princesses and fairytales and happy ever after. Every daughter goes through a stage of ‘pinkness’ which includes dressing up and acting out the stories of her favourite fairytales. So the type of heroine your girl likes is vitally important when picking a film for her.

If she is the starry-eyed heroine type she will love Disney classics Sleeping Beauty or Snow White. However, nowadays more and more films have heroines with substance in which case she will love The Princess and the Frog and Mulan. This is great for our little princesses as it gives them strong role models early on.

Here is a list of Top Ten films that girls under five will love:

Snow White

The beautiful but put upon princess meets her prince and falls in love then his kiss saves her. Could you get a more romantic story?

Sleeping Beauty

Again true loves first kiss saves the princess, what little (or grown up) girl does not dream of being swept off her feet by her handsome prince even if it is just once in a while?

A classic story of a beautiful girl down trodden by her family and ultimately saved by her true love; with a little adventure along the way.

The Little Mermaid

Ariel is the first in a long line of modern determined princesses who knows what she wants out of life and will do anything to get it.

The Princess and the Frog

A new breed of princess who is much more able to take care of herself but still needs to find her true love. The frog still has to teach her something about herself but this time it is how to have fun.

Beauty and the Beast

This is a very romantic story; especially how Belle slowly falls in love with the Beast. The supporting cast of fixtures and furniture will make your children laugh and sing along.

Tinker Bell

Find out how Tinker Bell started and how she became the fairy we know and love from Peter Pan.

Who could not be hypnotised by the romance of the Arabian Nights and a beautiful headstrong heroine who is rebelling against an unjust system.

Our princess has been put in a tower protected by a dragon and she expects to be rescued by her true love’s first kiss, this is pretty standard stuff. However, Fiona is an altogether new type of princess as she proves when Shrek kisses her and the spell is broken.

She is the ultimate female lead, the next generation of heroine our little girls can look up to. She is beautiful but also resourceful and uses her brain to trick her enemies. A worthy role model.
