Signs

Signs is a science fiction horror thriller film. Written produced and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the film has an all star cast including Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin, and Abigail Breslin. The basic story is that of a covert alien invasion, but the writer also comments that it shows how human emotions evolve after a supernatural event.

Although considered a moderate box office success the film received mixed reviews. Many viewers found the film slow to start but still enjoyed the suspense and tension this built up. Fans of Gibson will love this film and the misery he feels at the premature loss of his wife which then follows him throughout the rest of his life.

The supporting roles of Phoenix, Culkin and Breslin are played well and all acquit themselves admirably especially in the final action scenes. The film perhaps will make the audience think about the world they see around them, is it full of coincidences or are some things decided by fate?

The story centres on Gibson’s character who is still grieving for the unaccountable loss of his wife, which also caused him to lose his faith and leave the clergy. He looks after his children and younger brother on their farm when one day a mysterious crop circle appears in one of the fields. Soon it is clear this is a sign of something more sinister than pranksters and Gibson has to defend his family against alien invaders.
