Julian Clary - Dog Show Celebrity Competition

I caught the end of a show last night on BBC2 (I think) with various "celebrities" putting rescued dogs through an assault course.
I'm sure Julian was urging the public to phone in to vote and save the dogs from being returned to the rescue centres.
Surely, this cannot be right, how cruel to those poor animals to "rescue" them for a second rate TV show and then send them back to the pound if they fail to win over the public.
Please someone who watched the whole programme put me out of my misery and tell me I've misunderstood the whole thing.
I can't believe TV producers would stoop so low for ratings.

from what i can gather the public can request to take any of the dogs after the series.
all of them will probably be rescued by the public as the brits love there pets.
shame we can't send julian to the pound tho?

To be honest, I thought the whole programme was in poor taste. i believed, like Floella that the unvoted for dogs would indeed be returned to the pounds they were picked from.

Thinking about it though, they all will more than likely be found homes, purely because they've been featured on tv. What a pity the people who will so desperately want these doggy 'stars' didn't visit pounds earlier.

Thanks for your responses. I'm glad that the dogs will be re-homed after the programme. It seems very unfair on the dogs to let them build a relationship with the celeb and handler and then cast them out. Why didn't the celeb's agree to keep the dogs no matter what, at least they'd have some stability.
I'm not particulary a dog lover but it did seem in very poor taste.

Sorry to Hijack your post Floella. but I can't believe what Manni has stated. "I don't believe in Homosexuals being on television, especially prime time television when children are watching" and that it wouldn't surprise him if Clary was behaving cruely towards these dogs!! Is that because he's a homosexual!! I would have thought if you were going to go for the sterotype sweeping image of a homosexual, the opposite would be true!!

Hi Maggoty,
I was actually a bit gobsmacked by Mani Hussains bigotry but chose sweep over it. It seems a very narrow minded view to me, and what if someone is not openly homosexual, do you ban children from watching all TV incase. What does someone's sexuality have to do with them presenting a TV programme.
What examples of presenters harming children with their private sexuality can Mani bring up to demonstrate that they shouldn't be on TV.
Does Mani assume children will be corrupted by watching them? Its not like the children are going to be watching gay porn on prime time TV.
And I couldn't understand the reference to harming animals because he's homosexual. After all Fanny the wonder dog was part of his act for years and he treated her OK. There, see now I've started on this rant and I tried so hard to avoid it. Phew!

The idea all along was that viewers could offer to re-home the dogs. Though Theo Paphitis (who was voted out last night) took his home with him, and I wouldn't be surprised if other celebs did the same.

I would also be very surprised if the celebrities DID NOT take the dogs home with them. After all, they chose them in the first place.
