Fuel starvation problem on 1987 Opel corsa (UK NOVA!)
I have a 1987 1.6 Opel Corsa (not the Corsa shape you think of now in the UK, it's the old UK Vauxhall Nova). Every so often (most days - more often after about 30 mins driving time and quite often in traffic jams, but not always under these conditions) it appears to suffer from fuel starvation. All of a sudden the accelerator has no effect and if pressed down for any more than 1cm from it's resting point causes the car to spit/splutter and if stationary, stall. When it happens, the car is only drivable in this '1cm' throttle range, so it limits the car to a jumpy 15mph or so. Then it just clears itself and is ok again. I have had the fuel filter changed and this hasn't helped. I've used some fuel injector cleaner in the fuel too, but with no improvement. Please help, I need this car for work and can't afford for a garage to spend hours looking for the fault. It really does feel like fuel starvation, as opposed to an electrical misfire or spark problem. Anyone?
