I am about to start negotiating with a Main Agent for the purchase of a new vehicle. It would be a straight cash purchase with no P/X involved. The full on the road price is in the region of £30,000. What percentage discount off of the quoted basic price should be my opening offer and what would be a reasonable percentage discount to agree upon? Thanks for any advice available.

Check "What Car's " guide aim price. It depends on the make and model. Get a big gas guzzler no one wants and you get more off...simples!
MotoringWhich? has "target discount" figures; depending on make/model they range from 5% (Mini) to nearly 30% (most Citroens).
