When I was away on business, the trouble & strife swapped the car I carefully chose for her for one she liked the look of. She has ended up with a bit of a rot-box. Jacking point, as I found out today whilst changing a wheel for her, is a tad iffy.

I've found Jap & Korean cars very expensive to keep so wouldn't want one again. Her current car (a Fiesta) has cheap parts but Fords still seem a slave to the tin worm. Whenever she looked at a Polo, it didn't have power steering.

Any ideas, save us wasting hours looking through the Buy & Sell at rubbish?

Find a low mileage, relatively newish Skoda Fabia. Solid, sound, reliable, cheap to run and nice to drive but boring.
I think that's a bad idea paul

Spikey you're buying for a woman who has already demonstated that the image of the car is very important to her.

If you go again for a practical choice that has a dull image she will not be happy with it. You need to bear that in mind.

Start by talking to her about brands that are acceptable (I'm guessing things like minis) and try to get a compromise from there

Otherwise you risk coming back to find a pink VW campervan in the drive that was a bargain too good to miss
I had a Nissan, I've got a Daihatsu at the moment - I never found either particularly expensive to maintain.
