Brakes

Squealing noise heard when brake pedal is pressed .

Garage says back brakes is ok , however front pads has got about another 1k mileage on them .

They say its my decision as to whether or not i want them to change it now .

What would you do - get it done now or wait ?

I would definitely have the job done now. You'll feel better once it's done, 1000 doesn't take too long to do and they can only guess anyway, and who knows - their prices might have gone up if you wait and have it done later....

The squealing is probably because the brake pads have glazed. I would change them if I were you.

Change them now and make sure they put some "Copaslip" on the back of the pads. This helps stop the squealing.

Get it done. Never skimp on brake safety.

It's possible for thin and worn-out pads to break up. That can very likely lead to scoring on the discs, and they'd need to be replaced to pass an MOT.

I'm not having a good day - just picked up car from garage - they cant do it today - they can do it tommorrow .

On return to work i've just noticed that a piece of the plastic bit on the key where you press to lock the car has broken off , showing the workings inside .
The plastic bit that you press to open is also broken as well ,and just about still attached , barely

Would you accuse the garage of causing it ?

I did not notice if they were loose / part broken before I left the car with the garage .

I assume it's going to cost me quite a few pennies tp replace key

Ask them for a quote before hand. you have a 1k to go?? so you have time to check out if the price is right.

They have quoted me £ 45 pounds to replace front pads .

Doesn't it depend on how many miles a year you do? 1k miles to me would be around 2 months.

I'm not , it's no secret - it's a Pegeout 307 , 1.4 51plate

The price of front pads for these is in the region of £15>>£20, to fit about 1hr>>> 2hrs depending on the fitter, the cause of the squeal is the pads, If the last person that fitted pads on your car did not use copper grease at the back of the pads, this is what happens, its not an urgent issue but the pads are.

It will be for the front of your car ( 2 each side) you can purchase a decent set for the price shown, do not go for cheap >>cheap Brazile, they have given you a decent price there. the rear brakes are on linings so they will not need changing at that age, It's not K.F. Is it?

I thought that the rear brakes were the same as the front on the pegeout - i.e. brake discs and pads .

When you say they are ' on linings ' - what exactly do you mean ?

Could be wrong but I think TWR thought your car has rear drum brakes.

Hi Tony / Bazile, Going off my wife's previous 307 52 plate, that was on linings, they are still brakes Bazile but are total different than pads, its not that often they wear out compared to the front, when you apply your foot brake, the front brakes engage first.
