I am currently deciding on changing cars, I have a 2001 Golf 2.0 GTi 56K FVWSH excellent condition, I am considering changing to a BMW 325ti Sport 03 reg 20K for 15k from a Main Dealer.

A few of Questions, firstly, how much could i expect as a px on my golf, and could I expect to a further reduction in the asking price for the BMW?

Also any who owns a BMW how are dealers for service and what are the cars like for reliability?

Lastly, does any one have any other suggestions, I am looking for a totally reliable car, has to be sporty, comfortable, high quality, low depreciation and reasonable running costs??

Thanks

In this price bracket the 325 seems to tick all your boxes, but everyones got one, so I think I would go for something different, like an Audi A4 PD130, or a VW Passat V6 4-motion.

If you must have a 3 series, then I would go for a 330 diesel, the best and sportiest deisel car in the world.

Stick with anything German unless it's a Trabant. Seriously though steer clear of the larger BMW's I think they probably depreciate quicker than a pro's knicks.

Might seem a bit obvious, but the car that meets all of your stated requirements is the new Golf GTi. Slightly over the 15K but not by too much. I have a Golf GT TDi which is pretty impressive. But I have driven the new GTi a few times now and can confirm that it is rather special.

thanks to all who answered, just found out the 325 is going to be a nightmare to insure being 24yrs old, so going to consider a 318 or 320 instead. Anyone recommend the new A3, 2.0FSI? have read that its v.good but heard its problematic! any owner experiences would be apprecaited.
I have to agree with Slimjim, now on my (lost count) ? golf gti they are excellent all round motors, but I have not had the pleasure of driving the latest one. Bah!!!
