Rear Wheel Burning Smell

When I pulled in after a straightforward 10 mile journey yesterday, I noticed a strong burning smell coming from my rear wheel. (VW polo 03 plate)

Nervously I drove home - another 5 miles - but onc ehome it had cooled down. Today I needed to get to work and planned to phone the garage once i was there. There was no smell this morning and I didn't get time to call the garage so I drove home . Again no smell and no excess heat. 15 miles each way.

Has it righted itself or should I get it checked? Reluctant to get stung for new breaks or a new caliper if there was nothing to worry about.

Maybe you'd driven with the handbrake partly on. That happened to me once

I have had trouble with brake pads siezing on disc. Is it a disc with the problem?
Garage told me its the rubber lining of brake flexy pipe breaking down blocking caliper oil ways. New caliper was fitted.

The smell hasn't returned since, and since Factor suggested the handbrake i'm going with that!

Didn't think of that.

I will keep an eye on it and take it easy; any sign of binding or heat on the brakes and I'll take it in the garage.
