I bought an 03 Ford Focus last May. I have put 3 new resistors and 1 new filter in. Once again it only blows on No. 4. Is there another underlying problem I should be looking for?

A common cause on the Focus is water ingress via the pollen filter seal, which can cause the fan shaft to seize, blowing fuses. The damp can also lead to failure of resistors.
If the fan only works on 4 its the resistor failure.

Thanks malagabob.
Just before it packs up, everytime, it starts to sound like a leaf or piece of paper is trapped in the fan, any connection?
I had a similar problem with my 04 Peugeot 307, but in reverse - mine worked on 1, 2 and 3 but not on 4.
The 1st time it happened, my m8 swopped the resistors, etc and everything worked ok for a while.
It lasted just under 12 months and went again, so we took the resistor back to the main dealer and asked for a replacement, expecting it to be under warranty. We were told that as we hadn't replaced the wiring loom, it was prob this that had caused it to blow and so it wasn't under warranty.
We've since replaced the wiring loom on the heater and have had no problems since.
Apparently, the wiring loom heats up and melts, which can obviously cause problems.
I don't know if this helps or not, but it's worth knowing just in case :)

Thanks Gizmonster. Any help is appreciated.
The shaft will start to make a squeeking noise when the fan is turned on. Thats the time to drop the fan out (a bit of a contortionist job) and with spray it with WD40 or a few drops of light oil. But if water leak is cause sort this out. Is the passenger foot well damp?

Foot well is bone dry.
