Not for long it won't - unless it is a faulty oil pressure switch - or a wire shorting out somewhere/disconnected.

Get it checked and DO NOT drive it until it is sorted. The oil light means the oil pressure is low, the engine will work for a while but it could seize at any time.
If the oil warning light comes on it means STOP immediately.
Just a thought have you looked at the oil level on the dip stick ?
