Satnav Wont Nav
I have posted this elsewhere on this site in Technology but because now wonder if it would be better here in Motoring. So here goes!
This concerns a new Audi car and a number of satnav's that stop working when used in this car.
The story so far:
On taking delivery of a new Audi contract hire car, the car it came without a satnav. A TomTom was borrowed from a son. Whilst it was a few years old the borrowed TomTom worked perfectly in the new car.
When money was available a new TomTom was purchased for use in the Audi. However, within a few hours of use it stopped navigating.
The next day it was returned to the shop and they supplied a new unit. The following day the unit failed again. Again the shop supplied a replacement unit. Surprise Surprise. This TomTom (3rd in a row) also failed. This time the shop supplied a Garmin, at an extra £30, but that has also failed.
The amazing thing about these failures is that each of the failed units when tried in other assorted family vehicles worked without a problem.
This time we contacted a local Audi garage. They thought it could be down to a heated rear windscreen but apparently it was not.
We have now contacted the supplying garage (contract hire company) that supplied the vehicle and they have never never heard of this before, but have promised to look into it. The problem is the person on whose behalf I relate this story, is in the medical profession and has to find her way to patients in rural areas taking her all over the place.
Any comments on Audi and satnav problems most welcome.

When the sat-nav was tried in other vehicles was it used by the same person who used it in the Audi

I know that before most of the "faulty" satnavs were returned for exchange, other people tried them in their cars and all worked. I have heard of a condition called SLID (or something like that) in which some individuals are said to effect electrical gadget. I have tried to look this up but I could not find much on this. What I did read sort of rubbished the idea. I have to keep reminding myself if the driver was a "slider"; how come only new satnavs are effected because before purchasing a new device, the driver used a tomtom that was at least 4 years old and it never failed once.
