how much is my Pajero worth

Mitsubishi Pajero, 2.5TD SWB in gun metal grey. Brand new MOT, 5 months tax, very clean & tidy throughout, has all the usual extras inc. electric windows & mirrors, air con, brand new spare tyre..

HOW MUCH IS THIS CAR WORTH? It was given to me, i've only had it a few weeks but cant afford to run it & am now thinking of selling it & getting something more fuel friendly

also, while i'm asking what is the overdrive button for on the 'gearstick'? do you get better fuel economy by having it on or off?

I think it's milage and age is probably more important than the fact it's in Gun metal grey or that it has a spare tyre!

the overdrive button i think is basically a 6th gear, im not sure whether you can use this just after having it in 5th or whether you can use it on any gear. i think it basically drops the revs and therefore uses less petrol, or diesel. im afraid i havent got a clue about how much you would get for your car. maybe have a look on autotrader etc just to see if there are anyothers on there like yours, this may give you a rough price!good luck with it

By engageing overdrive you effectivly engage a 'gear and a half', what i mean is that, for every single revolution of the engine output shaft, the propshaft will turn one and a half times. This does indeed reduce revs for any given speed so should result in a fuel saving, although it was originally designed to produce a more relaxed, quiet cruise. It should work on fifth and forth gear I think.

As to a value of your particular car, there are lots of price guide magazines in Smiths, Parkers for example, just pop in and look it up, like most people do!

Remember that Parkers etc are not always very accurate. Traders will use Glass's or Cap (blackbook). Which reflect prices more accurately - I think Parkers is written to make people think their car is worth more than it really is.  The other problem that you have is that the car will be an import (Pajero is the imported version of the Shogun) - so will have less value, as the specification is usually lower and it is much harder to check the history etc.

All good points by Tubeway, As it's an import it isn't on Parkers. Trouble is generally people have an inflated opinion of the value of theire car, usually because they paid too much when they bought it from a dealer. Dealers get a lot of their cars at auction so they won't pay any more for a car than the auction price. Glasses guide is the trade source of prices but with a 1993 import you are looking at more specialist sources. It's quite low milage for 12 years old but it's still 12 years old, I'd say if you get �2K you'll be doing very well. If you are thinking of getting something else and if you are going to a dealer (horror of horrors) they'll be overcharging you enough on what you buy to cover for giving you a good trade in price.

When I was in the motor trade I used to love the people who wandered on site with a Parkers guide - I used to get my copy of Glasses guide, put it in my pocket and go sell me a car.
