Seat Belt Alert

So how does my car tell the difference between a passenger and several bags of shopping? It never asks the shopping to belt up but beeps like crazy at even the lightest passenger who delays.

Surely there are not a scales under the seat?!

Bags of shopping ... perhaps 15kg at the outside - any passenger at all - 4kg to 50kg minimum.

Yes - there are weight sensors in the seats.

i can alwYs tell when my handbag needs clearing out because it sets off the passenger seat sensor.

We use seat belt extenders like these in our cars

They're never disconnected so sensors don't operate 'cause they think seat belt is on.

What's the reasoning behind the extenders, balders?

Surely it introduces another potential weak point in the event of a crash?

Two of our cars have high central 'Tunnels' they save you having to fish around for a seat belt point between your hip and that tunnel and they comply with all present safety regs.

Clever - not a problem I've had, but I know one or two elderly relatives who struggle a bit with finding the latch.

Well, mine are very lenient by the sounds of it and cope with the handbag complete with ipad, brolly and all manner of rubbish as well as a couple of bags of shopping.

How diplomatic it would be if it were to bleep a little more gently should it encounter a slightly lighter me after my week of salads!
