Pulled up today to call in shop & when I got back in to start it there was no power when I put my foot on accelerator, Tried 3 more times but no power. Luckily I was parked next door to a garage which tested my engine as a yellow warning light was on indicating problems with the engine. They checked it out on a Diagnostic machine but nothing came up? They said I was safe to drive it home. Not sure what to do next as I rely on my car for work?
I'm confused. You'd got 'no power' but you drove home. How?
Perhaps it would help people here if you told us what you mean by 'no power'. Do you mean that the revs didn't increase when you put your foot on the accelerator? Or perhaps you mean that you got plenty of revs but they didn't translate into the forward movement that you'd normally expect? Or possibly something else? Did the problem suddenly clear itself (enabling you to drive home) or is it still there in some way?
Hi Buenchico, sorry engine started but no revs. Finally worked after some time so the mechanic drove it into garage & did tests on machine but nothing came up? Driving fine at the moment.
jomifl, sorry don;t smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pressing down on the accelerator increases the amount of air getting into the engine. If that didn't happen when you tried it, it could be something as simple as a wind-blown piece of litter (such as a crisp packet) temporarily blocking the air intake.
kat, if your engine management light came on it would have registered the fault on the ECU. The guy at the garage should have been able to read what the fault registered was if he had plugged your car in to a diagnostics machine.
However Chris is right, it could have been something as simple as a crisp packet blocking the air intake ( it should have still registered the fault on the ECU though ).
