There is no such thing as a 'black mark on an address', there may of been in the past but not anymore. You have absolutely nothing to worry about daveygh. Just send a covering letter to DVLA explaining that it isn't and have never been your bike and you do not have any connection to the owner stated on the V5. You're worrying about nothing.

I've rented before and I used to get hundreds of letters coming through the door for debts of over £10,000's for different people and I just called the debtors and told them that person doesn't live there anymore - they have to leave you alone. Next time you get any mail for someone else just write on it in big letters "DOES NOT LIVE AT THIS ADDRESS" and throw it in the nearest post box. That way you won't have to worry what's inside it!
My friend got a V5 through the post years and years ago and he couldn't be bothered to even send it back so he rang the DVLA and told them he'd destroyed it after they asked him to return it. They didn't seem bothered. I think he still has it somewhere. He was a lazy so and so though - too much effort to go to the nearest post box. He's got a missus now though so he has to pull his weight lol.
